Not all of us realize the scope of education and training a Podiatrist undergoes, and just what a significant impact they make on the medical profession.
Podiatrists are physicians of the feet and ankles. Initially, they are required to complete 4 years of Podiatric Medical School to achieve a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree. In order to practice medicine, a DPM must then supplement their education with 3-4 years of residency in a hospital or medical clinic. It is during this training that a Podiatrist leans into their specialty, with the opportunity to learn medical (and surgical) management for both inpatient and outpatient clients
Dr. Elizabeth E. Auger attended her residency training in Salt Lake City; specializing in intensive foot surgery and wound care. Once completed, in 1999, she chose to make SLC her home. As an athlete, SLC was the perfect place to explore the great outdoors while meeting the foot care needs of sports enthusiasts, senior citizens, and infants.
Everything you need and more than you expect is what makes Dr. Elizabeth E. Auger #1 in Sandy, Utah Podiatry!
Maybe you haven’t had the opportunity to be examined by a Podiatrist -- sometimes people live half their lives without an experience they should have as a child. In the United States, lower-priced health plans require a primary physician or ER referral to cover a podiatry appointment. This means that a great percentage of our population will never see a Podiatrist; unless they develop a serious foot condition or suffer an urgent injury.
If you treasure your Sandy, UT active life and mobility, it is a wise move to be examined by a Podiatrist early on; to get a feel for how everything is working, while discovering ways to prevent future problems. For instance, most people never realize they’ve had ‘flat arches’ all their lives. Suddenly they can’t put their heel to the ground without pain and find they have developed a condition known as plantar fasciitis. With prior knowledge, they would have known to avoid flat shoes and used appropriate arch support, especially in sports.
When your first choice for foot and ankle problems is Dr. Elizabeth E. Auger, Sandy UT holistic podiatrist -- you can always expect:
Every time we sit, stand, roll over in bed, brush our teeth, and take a bath -- our feet are at work. Supporting and propelling our bodies from one position to another are only two functions in a long list of benefits our feet provide. Leonardo da Vinci referred to the human foot as a masterpiece of engineering, yet many of us take our feet for granted -- that is until we lose mobility.
Suddenly walking, standing, jogging, climbing stairs, and even getting out of bed is difficult and painful. Certainly, a condition that interferes with your daily life is not something you can ignore-- whether you’re dealing with a fracture or sprain, or living with bunions, ingrown toenails, Achilles tendonitis, fungal nail, hammertoes, or one of many others.
Let’s take a brief look at this composite summary of a single human foot:

I was having severe burning pain and numbness in my left foot after running. Dr. Auger provided custom orthotics and treatment so I am able to run again. She is very knowledgeable and caring. I highly recommend her!
After I experienced months of severe pain in my left heel that left me unable to walk at times, Dr. Auger found bone spurs in my heel and Achilles tendon. She surgically removed them and it was the best thing that I have experienced. I have no pain and have been able to walk again. I highly recommend Dr. Auger… she rocks.
Dr. Auger removed a Morton’s Neuroma from my left foot. I could hardly walk prior to the surgery, now 6 weeks after surgery I’m walking and have no pain. Very pleased!
